I strongly suggest that you delete Facebook and not just stop using it. Deleting Facebook sends a strong signal to your friends that to you power abuse by Facebook is not acceptable and it shouldn’t be to them either. It also makes it easier for your friends to Delete Facebook because that way they won’t be alone.

Unfortunately Facebook has gained so much prominence that for many people the cost of leaving Facebook is very high. In that case you can leave Facebook and create a new empty account just to join the required groups, don’t have a profile picture, (better have a dislike profile picture), don’t accept friend requests, don’t chat, don’t share, don’t like and just access the group. That way you can send a strong signal against Facebook while still having an access to the group.

By the way the prominence of Facebook is another important reason to leave Facebook, now, because with things like internet.org our dependence of Facebook and its products will only increase it will be more difficult to leave Facebook in the future.
