Finding PG in Bangalore
If you are doing an internship in Bangalore it is likely that you’ll stay in a PG. PG stands for Paying Guests. In a PG you provides 1, 2, 3 or even 4 sharing room. Often they provide Wifi and food and sometimes washing machines too.
So how do you find a PG? Rather I’ll tell you how did I found one.
As usual, the first step is to ask someone you know, if they know about any PG, I asked a co-intern and he gave me the address and the contact number of the PG he stays in. The second way is try to find PG’s advertisement online, I found quite a few PGs near my office from this website. And the third way is roam around on the street and look advisements, and you’ll find a lot of them, usually on telephone and electric poles. Now when you’ll call at the given number, they’ll usually ask you to come a landmark and someone will come to take you the PG. I visited total six PG’s and out of those three times a guy came on a bike or scooty and took me the place. Its kinda funny, you are sitting beside a stranger and he takes you to a unknown place using unknown roads. Some of the PG’s are homes of people who have decided to build extra rooms to give out for PGs. In these cases the PG owner lives in the same building and takes care of things, one of the PG the owner told me that he only cooks the food for the “guests”. Some of the other PGs are very commercial, as in, the whole building is build for the sole purpose of giving as a PG, the house owner doesn’t live there and they have employees who takes care of the things. As expected, the commercial PG’s were costlier and demanded a larger percentage of money as advance but they had better and larger rooms.
Overall finding a PG in Bangalore was an interesting exercise.
